Mill Road Fishery |
Mill Road Fishery is a day ticket coarse fishery located in the pretty Broadland village of Stokesby. Although we are in the heart of the Broads with all the fishing that it offers, we provide the day ticket angler some fantastic carp and tench fishing in peaceful, boat-free surroundings.
Andy Jameson and Janet Duncan moved into the Homestead in the summer of 2007 and have been developing the lake and the land ever since.
The lake was originally dug in 2005 and stocked shortly after with a large number of Carp, Tench and Rudd by the then owner. The lake is just under an acre and includes two islands which help to separate the anglers and ensure everyone has their own water to fish. The lake has 17 hand built wooden stages that provide flat, stable pegs.
We are developing the flora and fauna around the lake and have planted a number of lilies, reedmace and other water plants to provide the fish with some cover. We have also planted a large number of native trees and shrubs around the lake and on the islands.
The lake is situated just off Mill Road, a short 5 minute walk from the village centre (head toward Acle). The fishing is only a few yards from the gravelled car park with a grassed overflow area and there is a level concrete path down to the nearest swims. The car park also has a brick built toilet block. There are seventeen purpose built wooden fishing stages.
Our aim is to develop the fishing alongside a thriving environment for the local wildlife. As the fishery matures the range of native plants will provide a home for many species. The surrounding fields are visited almost daily by a pair of Barn Owls who compete with the Kestrels in hunting for the Field Voles in the long grass. We have a page dedicated to the local wildlife here and will develop this as the site matures.
