 Crime Prevention Matters

The Rural Flegg Safer Neighbourhood Team meets with representatives from all the villages in the Flegg area each quarter to discuss any specific crime incidents or trends that are worrying local residents.  These issues are then prioritised for the local Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) and Police to work on during the next Quarter.

In the past, we have asked the Police to prioritise on such matters as the thefts of diesel and oil from tanks, distraction burglaries, bogus callers, illegal parking and speeding.

Each Quarter the Police produce reports and statistics to show members what they have been doing to address these issues.

As a Stokesby resident, Wendy Reader has been attending these Quarterly meetings, and will take any concerns or priorities that you feel the Police should consider.

Please feel free to contact Wendy at wendy.reader49@btinternet.com  if you have any concerns you would like raised. The police are very keen to welcome any villagers to attend to give as wide a view as possible.

Wendy is also the person to go to for Stokesby Village Home-watch issues.  After any crime or incident in the village Wendy is informed by the Home-watch team  - and she can - if asked - come round to visit victims -  and offer any practical or emotional support.  There are also posters and window-stickers that can be displayed to warn-off prospective burglars.

A message to all Norfolk Home Watch co-ordinators and members.

I would like to take the opportunity to tell you about the new Neighbourhood and Home Watch website www.ourwatch.org.uk.

The website has been endorsed by Home Office and Crime Prevention Minister James Brokenshire.

At www.ourwatch.org.uk you will be able to insert your postcode to identify local Home Watch schemes in your area.

I would also like to invite all Home Watch Co-ordinators to register their schemes on the map by clicking on the following link: http://www.ourwatch.org.uk/get_involved/register_a_scheme/.

The website also links through to the national street-level crime mapping site so you can see what crime has happened where you live in the past month.

Details of your local Safer Neighbourhood Team can also be accessed through the website – and of course, via Norfolk Constabulary’s website www.norfolk.police.uk  I do hope you’ll take a moment to have a look at the new website which has been designed to support local Home Watch schemes.

Kind regards,

John Bebbington
